It’s hard to get a photo of the moon and stars that actually matches what your eyes see. That said, any good quality slr will be able to do it SO LONG AS you know how to use the camera. Just having an slr will NOT mean that you can take pictures of the stars. Learn to use whatever camera you have. Lily

I don’t know about what model to use, but…

When taking a picture of the moon and stars, it is important to mount you camera onto a tripod to avoid getting a blurry picture. Also, your camera should have a time-delay feature (or a squeeze bulb, if it’s an old camera) so that the picture is taken a few seconds after you press the button. gabrielhurley

Any camera with a good telephoto lens and adjustable aperture and shutter speed would work. When shooting the moon, don’t go by what the meter says. It’s a daylit scene, and needs to be shot at faster shutter speeds than you’d usually use at night.

    For the moon:
    ISO: 100
    Focus: manually set at infinity
    Aperture: f/8
    Shutter:
1/200 sec for a full moon
    1/100 sec for gibbous moon
    1/50 sec for quarter moon
1/12 sec for crescent moon Teri

you need to set the camera for a longer exposure time (shutter speed) and put it on a tripod. start at 1/16 sec and go longer from there. my sony h20 can do it. Steve
